In a recent report, The Guardian found 83% of global tap water tested for “Plastic Fibres.” Of the countries tested, the United States had the highest level of contamination impacting over 94% of America’s water supply.
At Aqua Chill New Jersey, we install Reverse Osmosis Filtration in a home or office creating an onsite water production system to continuously feed fresh, clean drinking to a water cooler system, eliminating the need for Bottles.
How do plastic microfibers get into our water supply?
Plastic is cheap, durable and can be molded into any shape thus playing an essential role in our daily life and is used in a wide variety of products. As a result, plastic waste is now a global problem. Plastic takes hundreds of years to decompose and as it disintegrates, chemicals leach into our environment. Considering over 20% of plastic ends up in the world’s rivers and oceans, plastic molecules are now present everywhere we look.
Experts also point out that washing machines emit plastic fibers from clothes, and studies show that so much plastic is used that particles even get into the air we breathe.
What are the health risks to having plastic in our water?
Currently, there is no research demonstrating the health problems caused by plastic fibres in our water. If plastic molecules get into our tap water, there is a possibility that the microparticles will be absorbed into our body, the effects of which are currently unknown.
Studies have shown that BPA (bisphenol A), a common component of plastics, can affect birth weight, development, obesity and the endocrine system. The health impact is so concerning that some countries have now taken steps to restrict the use of BPA in plastic.
There is also concern that the plastic microparticles in tap water could act as “carriers” by attaching themselves to harmful contaminants such as chemicals or heavy metals transporting them into the drinking water system.
What can we do?
Due to the plastic particles light density, there are concerns that the plastics will not be removed when processed by a Water Treatment facility. The best way to protect yourself and your family is to use a Reverse Osmosis Filtration in your home.
Aqua Chill New Jersey filters are scientifically proven to remove plastic particles as small as 0.0001 microns from drinking water. Reverse Osmosis also removes many other contaminants like Lead, Chlorine and Bacteria giving you complete peace of mind about the quality of water your family is drinking.
Additionally, you can support the environment and reduce plastic waste by using reusable stainless steel or glass water bottles filled with Reverse Osmosis water. Ultimately, every little action helps reduce plastic pollution. Don’t take any risks to your family’s health and use an Aqua Chill New Jersey water filter to ensure the best quality clean drinking water straight from your tap.
